Knowing Others Players a Key to Success
September 24th, 2008It is very important to know your opponents before you even start playing the game. First, gather all information you can about your opponents even before they sit down at the table. The approach of the individual, the way he walks, the communication skills, etc. must be scrutinized properly. You need to write down each detail of the players. If a new player is camouflaged in the milieu, how would you recognize him?
A greenhorn in poker would first start buying chips. Now that this tip gives you the clue as to who the new entrant is, try to analyse whether he has a roll like any professional player or just few cash for the day.
Here’s little scenario: a player opens his wallet and brings out a bunch of 20 dollar notes. What does this say? In all probability, the player got the money from the bank – as the notes were in his wallet. A player taking money from the casino’s ATM would not like to keep the cash in the wallet when he knows he has to use it soon.
Also, professional players use 100 dollar notes rather than 20 dollar notes as these are easy to carry. Moreover, these players also do not keep their roll in the bank. They’d select a casino ATM for the purpose.
You can also tell from the way the player deals with the money whether he would be an aggressive player or a conservative one. Also, you can say if the player is serious in earning bucks or playing just to pass off his free time.
Even very small details should be checked and analyzed. If you find that the player knows the casino staff, then take him as an experienced, professional player. Note his confidence as it would surely affect the decisions he takes during the game.
